BVCA Responsible Investment Awards

Hermes GPE LLP (‘Hermes GPE’) has won the ‘Overall ESG framework’ award in the firms with AUM over £1bn

category at the British Venture Capital Association’s (BVCA) Responsible Investment Awards 2016. The BVCA

Responsible Investment Awards are the only awards in Europe which recognise and celebrate outstanding

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices within private equity and venture capital. In assessing

the entries, the judging panel were looking for evidence of overall good practice in ESG including in areas such

as integration, materiality and stakeholder reporting. The awards are now in their sixth year and were presented

on 6 October at the BVCA Summit in London.

Hermes GPE is an active and experienced investor in global private markets, with a 25 year investment history.

The firm specialises in developing bespoke global private equity portfolios for institutional clients across coinvestments,

primary funds and secondary investments. Hermes GPE is part of Hermes Investment

Management (‘Hermes’), the £26bn ($34.8bn) manager focused on delivering superior, sustainable, risk

adjusted returns to its clients – responsibly, and was set up as a joint venture between the Hermes GPE

management team and Hermes. Both Hermes and Hermes GPE have a long heritage of focusing on and

understanding ESG risk, as evidenced through being signatories and ongoing supporters of the United Nations

Principles for Responsible Investment.

Peter Gale, Head of Hermes GPE said

“We are delighted that our ESG framework has been recognised as best-in-class by the BVCA. We have always

considered ESG to be an integral part of our investment strategy, firmly believing that engaging in non-financial

as well as financial considerations can improve investment performance as well as positively contributing to the

environment and society. We incorporate a robust ESG assessment into the review of all our investment

opportunities and recently updated it to integrate emerging best practice given the fast -evolving nature of the

private equity industry’s approach to tack ling ESG issues.”

Saker Nusseibeh, CEO of Hermes Investment Management commented

“We are an asset management firm that genuinely puts the interest of our clients and society at the forefront of

all that we do. The impact of ESG and sustainable investing is a core belief for Hermes. We recognise that

these factors are a source of alpha as well as risk factors in investment decision making and I congratulate the

Hermes GPE team for their excellent work in this area. At all levels, and across all markets, whether public or

private, Hermes’ objective is to deliver sustainable, risk -adjusted outperformance for our clients.”
